About 50 Minnesota families will have their lives shattered this year due to the death of a teen in a car crash. Parents will forever wonder what they could have done differently to prevent the tragedy.

Car crashes are the leading cause of death for Minnesota teens. Most crashes are the teen’s fault – inexperience, excessive speed, distractions, poor observation, drinking or drugs. Some deaths are easily preventable, like using seatbelts. Some crashes will involve the deaths of others – siblings, friends, other drivers and their passengers. All deaths will be heartbreaking; some will shatter lives and marriages.

Safeway is committed to lowering these statistics but we need parents to work with us. It is hard to overstate the importance of parent involvement to insure a safe teen driver. There are three principal ways we believe parents can be involved:

Step 1 - Beginning today:
Model Safe Driving Habits
Step 2 - During the Instruction
Permit phase:
Practice, Practice, Practice
Step 3 - During the Provisional
License phase:

Set Rules, Monitor Driving
and Enforce Consequences
